Last year, I was fortunate enough to attend the Associationof Fraternal Values and Leadership conference and learned way more than I ever
imagined. Through the dozens of lectures and workshops that I attended, we
covered topics about fraternity life, values and leadership. The seminars that
stuck out the most weren’t about any of those subjects but actually focused on
self improvement.
I never thought I would be interested in personal development
seminars, but the speakers were highly motivational and entertaining. Among
these speakers were Rick Barnes, Corey Ciocchetti and Lori Hart. All three of
these speakers were from CampusSpeak, a business that supplies speakers to
campus leaders across the nation.
The one message that stuck out to me more than anything else
was a video that Corey Ciocchetti played. The video is titled Lost Generation
and is written by Jon Reed. It focuses on Generation Y and how we are
criticized for being lazy and apathetic. Please watch the video, and let me
know what you think.
I have personally been moved by this video, and I constantly
refer to it when I feel burnt out or like I’m running on empty. The important
takeaway is that we can make a difference and anyone can change the world.
Meredith,
ReplyDeleteThis is not the first time I have heard references about our generation being lazy and lost. It seems to be a topic of real concern to those older and wiser out there, but I disagree. Maybe it is because I was raised in a home where family comes first and money comes second, or maybe it is because I go to ONU where the student population is full of "go-getters" and big thinkers, but I refuse to think my generation is lazy. The truth is there will always be those who take advantage of the system and spend their lives being lazy, but there are also just as many people willing to do what it takes to make a difference. Whatever may be said about our generation, it will not be said about me and those I surround myself with because I am not interested in that kind of negative behavior.
